Cadillac to modernize wastewater plant through energy-as-a-service project

Cadillac, Michigan, partners with Schneider Electric and Budderfly to upgrade its municipal infrastructure through a $4.4 million energy-as-a-service project, focusing on sustainability and resilience.

The City of Cadillac, Michigan, has selected Schneider Electric and Budderfly to modernize municipal infrastructure, including its wastewater treatment plant, through an energy-as-a-service agreement.

Budderfly will invest approximately $4.4 million in upgrades across seven municipal facilities, allowing the city to make improvements without upfront capital costs. The project was approved by the Cadillac City Council in late July.

At the wastewater treatment plant, as well as other city facilities, the project will deploy solar power, battery energy storage, upgraded HVAC and lighting systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and microgrid capabilities designed to maintain essential services during power outages.

Schneider Electric will provide energy management and automation technologies to monitor and optimize facility performance. Budderfly will finance, own, deploy and operate the energy systems and provide guaranteed savings over the contract term.

The project is intended to reduce energy costs while improving resilience and providing more predictable operating expenses for critical municipal services, including wastewater treatment.
