The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has launched a $1 million Federation Impact Grant Program to support its Member Associations (MAs) over the next three years.

Announced during WEFTEC 2026, the program is funded through proceeds from the sale of WEF’s former headquarters building. The grants are intended to strengthen MA operations and support innovation, workforce development, leadership and community initiatives.

The program includes $450,000 for foundational organizational needs such as infrastructure and technology improvements, membership growth, student engagement and volunteer development. Another $350,000 will support MA-led innovation and pilot projects involving areas such as workforce development, community engagement and the circular water economy.

WEF also allocated $100,000 for a Centennial Legacy Support Fund to help MAs document and celebrate their history and participate in activities associated with WEF’s upcoming centennial. An additional $100,000 will establish an emergency and resilience reserve for unforeseen challenges and disruptions.

“This is a truly full-circle moment for our federation,” said Keith Hobson, WEF president, in a press release. “Today, we reinvest the value created through that shared commitment back into the Member Associations themselves so they can continue to make local impact.”

WEF said application materials, eligibility requirements and funding guidelines will be released when the application period opens Nov. 1.
