Illinois American Water has completed its $770,000 acquisition of the wastewater collection system in Venice, Illinois, adding approximately 500 wastewater collection customers to the company’s operations in the Metro East area near St. Louis.

The acquisition was approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission on June 24, 2026. Illinois American Water plans to invest approximately $2.6 million in the Venice wastewater system over the next five years.

Planned improvements include rehabilitation or replacement of wastewater mains and manholes, upgrades to lift stations and control and security enhancements at pump and lift stations.

Before the acquisition, Illinois American Water provided Venice customers with wastewater transportation and treatment services while the city operated the collection system. The company will now provide collection, transportation and treatment services.

The acquisition expands Illinois American Water’s wastewater operations in the Metro East, where it also provides wastewater services in communities including Alton, Granite City, Godfrey, Grafton, Jerseyville, Shiloh and Madison, as well as through regional wastewater systems.
