Dow MLD Tech Wins International Desalination Assn. Award
Transitioning to a circular economy is the next step for society to move to the next level of sustainable consumption. Dow Water Solutions, a business unit of DowDuPont Safety & Construction division, won the 2018 International Desalination Assn. (IDA) Award for Industry Technology and Innovation Leader in Water Reuse and Conservation.  The award recognizes Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD), a wastewater management approach that helps industry move beyond a linear “take, make and dispose” model to a world in which raw materials are continuously recycled and reused.
“Advancing sustainable water management and a true circular economy requires more than industry-leading knowledge. It requires innovation in applying what we know,” said HP Nanda, global business director for Dow Water Solutions. “This humbling recognition from the IDA reinforces that our MLD approach is meaningfully disruptive and increasingly being embraced and adopted by industry to further improve efficiencies across the water value chain.”

De Nora Supplies 10 Water Treatment Plants with Disinfection Systems
De Nora, a designer of safe and sustainable water disinfection and oxidation, filtration and electrochlorination solutions, will supply water disinfection systems for 10 water treatment plants to the Water Supplies Department of Hong Kong S.A.R. The packaged systems feature CECHLO On-Site Chlorine Generation (OSCG) technology using Capital Controls chlorine injection equipment, and EST scrubbers for emergency chlorine abatement. The decision for a territory-wide conversion aims to address safety concerns associated with liquid chlorine containers being transported and stored around the highly populated waterworks. The 10 water treatment plants—seven with contractor REC-Chevalier JV and three with Torishima (Hong Kong) Ltd.—include two CECHLO OSCG trains at each of the potable water treatment plants, one primary and one standby, and will have a combined generation capacity of 16,920 kg per day of chlorine. All systems are expected to be operational by 2020.
