Transcend adds AI capabilities to wastewater design platform
Transcend has introduced two enterprise AI capabilities for its Transcend Design Generator (TDG) platform, aiming to help utilities and engineering teams evaluate infrastructure options, understand preliminary design results and integrate engineering data into downstream workflows.
The new capabilities include Ask TDG, an AI assistant that answers natural-language questions about the platform’s engineering methods, calculations and technology-selection approaches using Transcend’s technical documentation, and MCP Gateway, which provides authorized AI environments governed access to selected TDG engineering capabilities and structured outputs.
TDG uses deterministic engineering calculations to generate preliminary designs for wastewater and drinking water treatment plants, pump stations and other infrastructure based on project criteria such as flow, treatment objectives and site constraints. Design packages can include process diagrams, 3D building information modeling (BIM), equipment lists, bills of quantities, operating expenditure estimates and a basis of design.
According to Transcend, the platform updates calculations across multiple engineering disciplines when project assumptions change, allowing utilities to compare alternatives and assess capital investments earlier in the planning process.
Ask TDG helps users interpret engineering methods and results but does not perform calculations or modify design outputs. MCP Gateway allows selected engineering capabilities to be accessed through external AI environments while keeping engineering calculations within TDG.
