Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) has completed Phase 1A of its Swamp Rabbit Gravity Sewer Upgrade Project, the first stage of a four-phase, $92 million effort to expand wastewater capacity between Greenville and Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Phase 1A replaced approximately 2,800 linear feet (0.53 miles) of aging 20- and 36-inch parallel sewer pipes between East Bramlett Road and Sulphur Springs Road with a single 60-inch pipe. The work also included 14 new manholes, a 70-foot steel pipe bridge across the Reedy River and 60 linear feet of 84-inch steel casing beneath Washington Street.

Construction took place within a developed corridor containing residential and commercial properties along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Poor soil conditions required 135 concrete support blocks and additional bedding stone to stabilize the new sewer.

The overall project began in late 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2031. ReWa is coordinating the upgrades with the Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict (MetroConnects), which is separately investing $8.9 million to rehabilitate and replace wastewater collection lines in the former Union Bleachery Mill Village serving Sans Souci and Cherrydale. The MetroConnects project also aims to reduce stormwater and groundwater entering the sewer system through inflow and infiltration.
