Nanostone Water Acquires Polymeric Membrane Business

Feb. 2, 2015
The company is building a portfolio of ceramic & polymeric membranes

Nanostone Water announced the acquisition of Ultura's membrane business following Ultura's bankruptcy filing last year. The transaction was completed Dec. 14, 2014 and includes the assets associated with "SEPRO" and "ROCHEM" brands of membranes, elements and modules. The product portfolio is being rebranded with the Nanostone Water mark.

Nanostone Water manufactures ceramic microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes and is currently conducting piloting of a high surface area monolith membrane expected to be cost competitive with polymeric membranes. Targeting mainstream water treatment markets initially, the company expects to release its next generation ceramic monolith membranes later this year. Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minn., with ceramic membrane manufacturing operations in Halberstadt, Germany, the acquisition expands the company's product portfolio with a line of polymeric MF, UF, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis technologies while extending its manufacturing base to Oceanside and Carlsbad, Calif.

"The acquisition aligns our company with a powerful combination of ceramic and polymeric membrane technologies. We expect our ceramic monolith technology to be truly game-changing, while the newly acquired polymeric membrane portfolio is widely recognized for high performance in a variety of industrial process and water treatment applications," said David Jellison, Nanostone Water's CEO. "Together, the combination of ceramic and polymeric technologies will offer our customers a differentiated, high level of membrane separations efficiency and effectiveness in a variety of applications.
