PC Construction Appoints New Vice President of Water Treatment

Dec. 6, 2012
Project executive Kevin Markhardt will assume the role in April 2013

Kevin Markhardt, a veteran project executive who has played many roles in his 15 years with PC Construction’s Water Treatment group, will assume leadership of the group when Senior Vice President Butch Bedell retires in April 2013 after a 45-year career.

Markhardt ultimately will report to PC Construction Executive Vice President Kevin McCarthy following a five-month leadership transition process in which he will work very closely with Bedell to ensure continuity for all customers and projects. PC Construction, which is 100% employee-owned, offers contracting, construction management and design-build services and has extensive experience in the water treatment industry.

“The Water Treatment business segment is critical to the success of our company, and Kevin is uniquely qualified to lead the group thanks to his in-depth knowledge of the business, from both a management and field operations perspective,” said EVP Kevin McCarthy.

“Kevin has led some of our most successful endeavors in recent years as he completed the work with his teams in a safe, productive and timely manner—all while committing to outstanding customer service,” added McCarthy. “His equally dedicated effort to help people learn and grow is an important quality that will help shape the future of our water treatment construction teams.”

Kevin Markhardt began his career with PC Construction in 1998 as a project engineer on the South River Water Reclamation Center Expansion in Atlanta. He brought to the company a wide breadth of experience gained in various roles with companies including Story Construction, Cedar Valley Corp. and Archer Western. Within a few years, Kevin started his progression at PC Construction to project manager, senior project manager, and then to his current role of project executive.

Retiring Senior Vice President Butch Bedell joined PC Construction in 1968 as a mechanic. Since then, he has been involved with nearly every water treatment plant the company has constructed, upgraded or expanded during the past three decades. His tremendous industry knowledge and remarkable ability to form relationships with clients has led to a career full of successful projects. After he retires on April 19, 2013, Bedell will continue to serve PC Construction in a consulting role for the next few years.

“Butch’s unique personality, combined with his unparalleled and experienced construction eye, has served PC Construction incredibly well for almost a half century,” said Peter Bernhardt, president of PC Construction. “While he surely will be missed, this is a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions he has made to help shape PC into the great company it is today.”

“We also are so pleased and fortunate to have a high-caliber individual like Kevin ready to step into this leadership role for our water treatment group,” noted Bernhardt. “It is rewarding to recognize the talents we have at PC Construction, and we’re confident Kevin will excel in his new role and create opportunity for the company as we continue to grow.”
