Veolia completes $58M Princeton Meadows wastewater treatment facility
Veolia has completed a $58 million replacement of the Princeton Meadows Wastewater Treatment Facility in Plainsboro, New Jersey, with the new plant incorporating climate-resilient infrastructure and advanced treatment technologies.
The facility serves approximately 11,000 residents and businesses and includes ultraviolet disinfection, high-efficiency biological treatment and energy-efficient equipment. The plant was built on higher ground outside the original 100-year floodplain to reduce the risk of flooding to critical infrastructure.
The facility treats approximately 475 million gallons of wastewater annually and reuses 32 million gallons of reclaimed water. The site has supplied reclaimed water for irrigation at a Middlesex County golf course since 1971, with approximately 1.4 billion gallons reused over the past 55 years.
The project replaces an aging facility that had operated for more than five decades. Veolia said the new infrastructure is designed to improve treatment performance, withstand extreme weather and meet future environmental requirements.
The project was completed in partnership with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Middlesex County, Township of Plainsboro and engineering and construction firms including HDR and J. Fletcher Creamer & Son.
