USFilter to Provide Extended Aeration Wastewater Treatment Plant in Florida

March 25, 2005
Facility will treat 900,000 gallons per day

USFilter has been selected to provide a more than $1million extended aeration wastewater treatment plant in Collier County, Fla. The plant is one of many additions planned for 5,000 acres of tomato patches and farmland in the county, just east of Naples.

A partnership between Ave Maria University creator and Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan and Barron Collier Companies, a major southwest Florida real estate and agricultural company, is providing funding for a new campus for the university as well as a whole new town called Ave Maria. The university is expected to draw as many as 24,000 additional residents to an area that has been known primarily for agriculture.

CH2M Hill Constructors, Inc., the design/builder for the water and wastewater treatment plants, contracted with USFilter Davco Products to provide and install the wastewater plant and two Gravisand filtration systems for effluent polishing. USFilter will also install an additional clarifier to be used as a back up and to serve as the basis for another full biological plant during an expansion phase.

"We're excited to be part of the development of this new town and its future growth," said Florida Operations Manager Don Klose of CH2M Hill Constructors. The water and wastewater treatment plants will serve campus-related facilities as well as residential units, retail stores, medical facilities, hotels, public schools and parks."

The wastewater treatment plant effluent will be reused for golf course and common area irrigation.
