S.C. DHEC to test water quality of home sites near H.B. Robinson nuclear plant

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will be visiting home sites in the area of the H.B. Robinson nuclear plant in Hartsville, S.C., this week. According to a press release issued by the DHEC, its staff will be in the area Dec. 10 and 11 to talk with residents and take well water samples.

According to the DHEC, work is being done to assess groundwater quality in the area. The department claims this will help determine whether certain types of radioactive materials may be in the groundwater. The DHEC said the H.B. Robinson plant is conducting similar tests.

According to the DHEC, the department will visit approximately 15 private and public well locations on Monday, Dec. 10, with testing scheduled for Dec. 11. The sampling is strictly voluntary and residents will be given their well's test results.
