Brown and Caldwell designs wastewater treatment; World Water Works celebrates 20 years

Brown and Caldwell Designs Wastewater Treatment Upgrades in Palo Alto, California

Brown and Caldwell has announced its selection by the City of Palo Alto to provide design services for secondary treatment upgrades at the city’s Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP).

The RWQCP with 39 million gal per day (mgd) design capacity treats wastewater before it is recycled or discharged to the San Francisco Bay. Upgrades are viewed as a key driver in the city achieving long-term utility performance and value as it manages population growth-driven capacity constraints, heightened effluent quality regulations, and aging infrastructure challenges. Having undergone several expansions and improvements many assets are now in need of rehabilitation and replacement.

Bredel Introduces New TCO Calculator

A new Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator offers proof that Bredel hose pumps can save time, money and materials in challenging, abrasive fluid handling applications.

The new Bredel TCO calculator supports existing users and new customers in the hose pump specification process. It also offers business-critical insight into the long-term cost benefits of Bredel technology when compared with air operated double diaphragm and progressive cavity pump types.

Utilis Awarded Contract in Flint

Flint, Mich has taken a step towards ensuring the stability of their water system by partnering with Utilis Inc. to locate leaks in their potable systems. This along with other city initiatives such as Fast Start, are helping Flint regain their reputation as water conservation and quality leaders.

“The city of Flint has made an important first step in remediating their potable water issue,” said Alex Puryear, Utilis Sales Manager. “Once we find their leaks, we can conserve the precious treated water they have while they work to repair plumbing.”

PMI Develops Guidance for Water Utilities

Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) has introduced parameters for the use of indoor recycled water. Developed for the benefit of water utilities to ensure that plumbing products function as intended by manufacturers, the water quality limits provide recommended ranges on 13 different parameters of water quality.

“This guidance will help water utilities to produce recycled water that will not hamper the performance of residential and commercial plumbing products that can be used with non potable water, such as toilets and urinals,” said Kerry Stackpole, PMI’s CEO/executive director.

City of Cedar Park Wins 2018 Sensus Reach Award

The City of Cedar Park received the 2018 Sensus Reach Customer Community Award. The Sensus Reach Awards recognize innovation, problem solving and results among public service providers.

Nanette McCartan, Utility Programs Manager at the City of Cedar Park is recognized for community improvement. Residents wanted more data and Cedar Park delivered with the Sensus customer portal. The city launched a campaign called “You’re Running The SHO2W” to encourage residents to sign-up and track their water usage. One year into the campaign Cedar Park has saved 15 million gal of water.
