The city of Manassas Public Works and Utilities department received the 2011 Excellence in Water Treatment Plant Performance award from the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water. The awards were recently presented in Roanoke, Va., at the 43rd Annual Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project “Water is Life” luncheon. In addition, Robert Edelman, P.E., district engineer for Virginia Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water presented the award to the mayor of Manassas, Harry J. Parrish II, in Manassas, Va.
“The city of Manassas is honored and thrilled to be recognized by Virginia’s Health Department, as our dedicated water treatment plant team has worked diligently to ensure quality water for our customers,” said Mike Moon, director of city of Manassas public works and utilities department.
Three levels of effectiveness and performance are awarded, including gold, silver and bronze. Manassas earned the silver designation for excellence.
The Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water Recognition Program awards water systems that show excellence in performance and operations and for the treatment and distribution of drinking water to the public. This award is earned by those water systems that go above the established water treatment regulations.
