American Water to Manage Sioux City Wastewater Facility

The Sioux City Council recently selected American Water to manage the operation and expansion of the city's wastewater facility. The 20-year contract is worth $114 million and is one of the largest such contracts in the country.

American Water Services will partner with Sioux City to manage its existing treatment plant while implementing an estimated $26.1 million capital expansion project over the next two years.

"We are partnering with American Water to manage the Sioux City wastewater facility after a rigorous selection process that has looked closely at our long-term requirements," said Paul Nolan, director of environmental services for Sioux City.

The upgraded wastewater treatment facility will have an increased capacity to treat 24 mgd of wastewater per day, up from its current level of around 14 mgd.
