Man Suspected Of Posing As Water Department Worker Arrested

June 28, 2004

Springfield, Mo., police arrested a man Leavenworth, Kan., police suspect of posing as a water department worker. Daniel Casterton was taken into custody Sunday afternoon.

The alleged scam involved a man going around to homes, asking older people to get water for him so he could check it. While the homeowners went to get the water, the man apparently rifled through belongings, taking some items and then fleeing the house.

A woman claiming to be Casterton's girlfriend called KMBC-TV and said Casterton was picked up at her home. Authorities told KMBC that they plan to return him to Leavenworth, where he's wanted on an aggravated burglary warrant.
