Water & Wastes Digest (WWD) is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Selig, daughter of WWEMA members Paul and Mary Jo Selig, Instrument & Supply, Inc., was the winner of the fourth annual WWEMA/WWD Scholarship Award.

The WWEMA/WWD award provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student accepted to a college or university to pursue a career in the environmental sciences.

Selig will be attending the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2008 to major in civil engineering. After that she plans to obtain her Master’s degree in environmental engineering to pursue a career in environmental water research.

Following an examination of the 2007 WWEMA/WWD Scholarship applicants, the Scholarship Committee determined that Selig best exemplified the necessary requirements per the ideal scholarship applicant.

Her academic honors include a GPA of 3.92, academic honor roll throughout high school and outstanding student of the year awards in chemistry, English and oral communications.

Her extracurricular activities include: Student Council President, National Junior Honor Society President, Girl’s State Delegate and the opportunity to shadow a consulting engineer in Ireland and Scotland to observe state-of-the-art biosolids handling equipment.

A plaque was presented to Selig at the WWEMA 99th Annual Meeting, which was held at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

In the spring of 2008, WWEMA and WWD will begin accepting applications for the 2008 WWEMA/WWD Scholarship.
