Iowa Egg Facility Penalized for Wastewater Runoff

Feb. 2, 2018
The facility allowed its wastewater to reach a creek

Daybreak Foods Inc., located in Eagle Grove, Iowa, has been penalized by Iowa state authorities for allowing wastewater generated at the facility to reach a creek.

The facility, which produces eggs, will be made to pay an administrative penalty of $5,500, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

It is likely the wastewater was able to reach the creek due to heavy rains this past August washing away a field application of the wastewater. Daybreak Foods has allowances to spread its wastewater, but it is disallowed from allowing it to run into surface waters.
