Pentair presented its advanced membrane technology at WEFTEC.16. This technology includes the Airlift and Crossflow MBR technologies with X-Flow membranes and Helix flux enhancement.
Helix delivers high performance with a small footprint and low energy consumption in heavy-duty wastewater treatment applications. Pentair first presented the Helix flux enhancement technology at WEFTEC.15 soon after its market introduction. This year, the company showcased the results it has seen in numerous projects around the world. The technology resolves concentration polarization and prevents the buildup of solids into a cake layer at the membrane wall. This results in up to 100% more productivity and up to 50% less energy use, depending on the feedwater quality.
Helix addresses the major bottleneck in high-solids ultrafiltration (UF) by preventing the buildup of foulants. By introducing non-stop turbulence right at the membrane wall, Helix allows operators to avoid the progressive reduction of the membrane’s hydraulic permeability.
Due to the continuous cleaning at low crossflow velocities, Helix reduces the energy footprint compared to standard solutions. The X-Flow tubular UF membranes with Helix technology are available in 8- and 12-in. modules, are backwashable, and have a reinforced support structure for extra ruggedness in demanding conditions.
