Boston-based Desalitech Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies. Both companies agree to negotiate a partnership agreement to bring cost effective, high recovery water solutions to Mexico and additional countries worldwide. The MOU was signed in Mexico City, Mexico as part of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick's Massachusetts – Mexico Partnership Mission.

The two companies have been collaborating in Mexico and the U.S. and are moving forward with their cooperation. This intended partnership comes at an opportune time as industry is currently responsible for 60% of fresh water withdrawals in developed countries, and this number is growing. It is becoming impossible for industry to ignore the environmental and financial consequences of inefficient water utilization. Veolia and Desalitech will provide cost savings and environmentally sound approaches to water treatment and reuse. The intended partnership joins the commercial, technical and execution strengths of Veolia, with Desalitech's experience in high efficiency reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment and wastewater reuse.

"Here at Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, it is of utmost importance to recognize our customers' needs and provide the tools to help them solve problems. We are pleased to incorporate Desalitech's technologies which complement Veolia's existing range of 350 state-of-the-art technologies," said Luis Maturana CEO, Latin America - Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies. "We pride ourselves on offering our clients top of the line, cutting edge solutions and we will continue to do so."

Desalitech offers high-recovery, low-energy water treatment solutions that have success in applications including large scale projects in agriculture and the industrial sector. Since 2008, Desalitech has expanded its industrial installation base. Desalitech's products mark a breakthrough in water treatment, with patented Closed Circuit Desalination Reverse Osmosis (CCD-RO) systems that are able to reduce waste generation by up to 70% and energy consumption by 35% compared to traditional RO methods.

"Water shortage and industrial wastewater disposal are among the world's toughest problems, and their impact on industry and agriculture is accelerating with growth. This must change, and Desalitech's mission is to bring this change today. Our high efficiency solutions represent a new future for industrial and agricultural water and wastewater treatment. The alliance we are announcing today with the world's largest and foremost engineering company of water treatment facilities, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, is a remarkable landmark and a great privilege for Desalitech," said Desalitech CEO Nadav Efraty.

Desalitech has been developing commercial products and technologies that support water management and recycling for industrial applications. This new arrangement with Veolia is consistent with the Desalitech approach of establishing long-term partnerships with leading companies that have the ability to focus on specific market segments in select geographies.

"Lasting growth in the 21st century global economy will come from our competitiveness in global markets and opening up Massachusetts to the markets where we share strengths," said Governor Patrick. "The leaders in business and government and venture capitalists of Latin America's growth centers are eager to collaborate with us because they recognize that Massachusetts is an innovation hub with a disciplined strategy for growth."
