Singer Valve Introduces Automated Pilot Control
Singer Valve has launched the 420-DC or 420-AC Automated Pilot Control. “In this new model, we have added over-volt protection, 4-20mA feedback, O-ring sealed, explosion-proof housing with new certification and a more modular design so repair can be done on specific parts that need it,” said Mark Gimson, business development and marketing manager for Singer Valve. In addition, Singer has doubled the torque on the unit’s motors, so the actuator’s operational life is significantly increased.
The pilot control offers programmable span and speed control via USB cable and software. This innovation allows easy field calibration using a laptop and a standard USB connection, rather than a custom cable. This reduces the number of wires in the connecting cable to the actuator, making it easier to install. The motor actuator responds to a 4-20 mA signal, rotating the pilot-adjusting screw according to the change in signal. The number of turns is adjustable and may be programmed to suit the pressure changes required for the application. With four different motors and modular boards, parts are easily replaced in the field.
The 420-DC or 420-AC requires less than 2 amps of power to operate; it is controlled by the 4-20 mA signal from the water distribution SCADA system. The very low power requirement lends itself well to a solar-powered self-contained station. Extended power failure would result in relatively steady pressure at the last setting. Optional freeze or default to high or low pressure is available on loss of signal. With IP68 certification, not only can the 420DC withstand water, but it is also capable of being totally submerged and will operate to a depth of 7 ft for 24 hours. It also features built-in surge suppression for protection against voltage spikes. The closed-loop positioning systems offer predicable and repeated accuracy.
