Aquatech to Provide Produced Water Evaporator System for Alberta Facility

April 12, 2013
System will treat and recycle produced water as part of oil extraction process

Aquatech has been awarded a contract for the design, engineering, supply and supervision of installation and commissioning of a produced water evaporator system for Pengrowth Lindbergh Energy Corp.'s 12,500 bpd steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facility. The project is located in the Cold Lake region of Alberta, Canada.

Designed using Aquatech's patented high efficiency evaporation process (HEVAP), the system will treat produced water to provide high quality boiler feedwater that will be converted into steam to be injected into the reservoir as part of the SAGD thermal process for oil extraction.

The HEVAP process incorporates a softening step combined with additional conditioning of the feedwater prior to treatment by the evaporators. This process provides the evaporators with essentially a scale free environment to operate, in addition to lowering operating expenses and life cycle costs. The system will be shipped by first quarter in 2014 with expected commissioning and start-up to be completed by end of 2014.

"The selected HEVAP process for this system provides a significant increased level of operational reliability and availability, which are key requirements in any SAGD facility. We are pleased that Pengrowth has selected our patented process for their project as we view the Oil Sands market as having a large potential for this type of system," said Alan R. Daza, P.E., vice president of sales and business development for Aquatech's Infrastructure and Major Projects division.
