"Repairman" Flees After Arousing Suspicion at Treatment Plant
Wheatfield, N.Y., officials are investigating a report that an unauthorized man attempted to gain access Saturday afternoon to the Niagara County Water Treatment plant.
A plant employee phoned Niagara County sheriff's deputies shortly after 3 p.m. when the man "with a foreign accent" pulled up to a gate, claiming he had arrived to repair a radio tower.
Unaware of any scheduled repairs, the employee became suspicious of the man in a red Jeep, deputies said. When the employee told the visitor that he would call authorities to verify his claims, the man drove off.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that no repairs had been scheduled at the plant.
