U.S. Power Plants Face New Environmental Regulations, Potential Retrofits
Seeking to minimize impacts to aquatic life, Section 316(b) of EPA's Clean Water Act (CWA) targets the cooling systems of 543 major US power plants. The new rule may significantly increase facility permitting and monitoring costs and could require major retrofits of cooling water intake structures (CWIS) at impacted facilities.
ENSR International's white paper, Cost-Effective 316(b) Compliance, provides strategies to help engineering and environmental managers evaluate the effects of the so-called "Phase II" rule on their operations. Representatives of affected facilities may request a copy at (800) 722-2440.
