A plugged sewer line gets the blame for a wastewater spill in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Officials say up to 50,000 gallons of untreated wastewater poured into a tributary of the Cedar River Monday. Workers found hundreds of gallons from the plugged line spilling out of a manhole on the city's south side.

The water ran into a nearby stream, which empties into the river.

Officials don't know how the line became plugged. Cedar Rapids the Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.
