Pipeline Camera Helps Rescue Stuck Kitten

A kitten stuck in a pipe for four days was rescued Tuesday through the use of a camera designed to identify broken lines and other pipe problems.

The unlucky feline fell inside an open pipe by an electrical panel behind an Orange Park, Fla., strip mall.

People nearby heard the kitten's cries and tried to figure a way to free it, lowering food and water into the pipe in the meantime.

When Tonya Mathis learned of the kitten's plight, she thought some of her husband's plumbing equipment could help. Upon his arrival, he lowered a small camera into the pipe to see the kitten.

After about an hour working with the camera and a saw to carefully cut the pipe, they finally set the kitten free – a bit shaky but alive and well.

Now known as "Zap," the feline will be going home to live with one of the strip mall's business owners.
