Alfa Laval Inc., a global provider of high-speed separators, and Millipore Corporation, a multinational bioscience company, have announced a joint marketing agreement for Millipore's multi-layer Millistak+® HC depth filters and Alfa Laval's high-speed biotechnology centrifuges. This integration of equipment will allow the efficient recovery of biopharmaceutical proteins generated by cell culture and fermentation.

"The first steps in drug recovery after a bioreactor are often the most challenging and require a series of separation and filtration steps. In working with a leader like Millipore, we are able to provide our customers with an optimal solution for primary recovery," said Kirk Spitzer, president and CEO at Alfa Laval Inc.

Under the terms of the agreement, each company will exclusively promote the other company's products to customers requiring centrifugation and depth filtration. Furthermore, this partnership encompasses assistance with sales activities, preparation and publication of technical articles, joint field testing and customer demonstrations of this centrifugation and depth filtration combination.

Millipore's Millistak+ HC depth filters combine two distinct separation technologies — charged depth media and membrane — to enhance filter capacity and retention. Designed for removing whole cells or colloidal particulates in mammalian cell culture applications, Millistak+ HC filters compress multiple stages of downstream bioreactor processes into one efficient step. Available in multiple formats and sizes, they are useful for small batch processing and direct scale-up to large volume commercial production.

Millipore is a multinational, bioscience company that provides technologies, tools and services for the discovery, development and production of new therapeutic drugs. It serves the life science research, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Alfa Laval, with global headquarters in Lund, Sweden, is a leading global provider of specialized products and engineering solutions. The equipment, systems and service are dedicated to assisting customers in optimizing the performance of their processes.
