Vulcan to Sell Municipal Drinking Water Treatment Business

Vulcan Materials Company has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Performance Chemicals municipal drinking water treatment business to ALTIVIA Corporation, a Houston, Texas-based producer of chemicals, and supplier of equipment and services to the municipal water treatment industry. The transaction is expected to close by December 31, 2002.

ALTIVIA will acquire Vulcan’s municipal drinking water treatment business in the United States, Canada and Mexico. ALTIVIA Corporation, headquartered in Houston, Texas is a key manufacturer of both specialty and commodity water treatment chemicals, and an important provider of municipal and industrial water treatment services. It has a range of chemical manufacturing, bulk terminal, sales and service facilities located strategically across the southern USA and Mexico.

Vulcan Materials Company, an S&P 500 company, is a producer of industrial materials with significant positions in two industries. It is the nation's foremost producer of construction aggregates, a major producer of other construction materials, and a leading chemicals manufacturer, supplying chloralkali and other industrial chemicals.
