Missouri awards $1.7M for Unionville wastewater upgrades
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded $1.7 million to the city of Unionville for wastewater treatment system upgrades, with completion expected by February 2027. The nearly $1.8 million project will consolidate flows from two facilities and help the city meet new effluent permit limits while extending system life and efficiency.
Funding includes a $718,000 low-interest loan and a $1 million grant through the department’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund, along with $43,987 in local contributions. The department estimates the financing will save ratepayers over $1 million in principal and roughly $320,000 in interest over the 20-year loan.
“The department will continue to fund upgrades to wastewater infrastructure across Missouri to help preserve our precious water resources while keeping customers’ utility bills affordable,” said Kurt Schaefer, director of the Department of Natural Resources, in a press release.
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund supports wastewater improvements, sewer system rehabilitation, combined sewer overflow corrections and efficiency and conservation measures. Participating communities benefit from below-market interest rates and guidance from a department project manager throughout the project. Funding for Unionville’s upgrades will be provided wholly or in part with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency monies.
