The text of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act has been released, according to a recent press release.
According to the Moving Forward Act, the measure would create millions of jobs, confront the climate crisis, and address disparities in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the United States.
This is a more than $1.5 trillion proposal, according to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
Among the provisions of the Moving Forward Act, the recent press release highlights a few key points of the H.R. 2. The full text can be found here.
The first is the INVEST in America Act, which is a nearly $500 billion investment to rebuild the nation’s transportation infrastructure. This would fix crumbling roads and bridges, improve safety, and get the U.S. on a path toward zero emissions.
The proposal highlights the need for the investment of over $25 billion in the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and other programs in order to ensure all communities have access to clean drinking water, according to H.R. 2. This includes removing dangerous contaminants like PFAS.
The next point of the proposal highlights the need for investment in schools with the Reopen and Rebuild America’s Schools Act. This act funds $130 billion in school infrastructure, particularly at high-poverty schools with facilities that endanger the health of students and staff.
Structural challenges and upgrades at child care facilities will be leveraged a 5-year, $10 billion federal investment as well.
Even further, the proposal highlights the need for over $100 billion into the nation's affordable housing infrastructure to create or preserve 1.8 million affordable homes.
