Badger Meter Technology Receives New Certifications

May 15, 2015
The company's technology received certification under ISO 27001 and met the SOC 2 reporting framework

Badger Meter has obtained certification of its Information Security Management System (ISMS) under ISO 27001 and met the Service Organization Control (SOC) reporting framework of SOC 2.

In an effort to design, implement and maintain a coherent set of policies, processes and systems to manage the risks of its information assets, Badger Meter has retained Brier & Thorn, a managed security service provider and risk management firm, to perform round-the-clock monitoring of its global networks and the Beacon Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) servers hosted by Amazon Web Services. As part of Badger Meter’s new vulnerability management program, Brier & Thorn also performs quarterly penetration testing, internal audits and risk assessments of its global networks.

The ISO 27001 certification of the Badger Meter ISMS means that it meets the security management standard that specifies security management best practices and comprehensive security controls following the ISO 27002 best practice guide. The ISMS required under this standard defines how Badger Meter perpetually manages security in a holistic, comprehensive way.

“We take the security of our customers’ data very seriously, and this certification confirms our longstanding commitment to making sure their critical information is protected,” said Richard A. Meeusen, chairman, president and CEO of Badger Meter. “Following these certifications, our ongoing goal will be to help our customers and partners understand the robust controls in place to maintain both the security and protection of our data. We want them to know that when they do business with Badger Meter, they can feel secure.”

As part of this campaign to build, maintain and continuously improve its ISMS, the company also chose to meet the reporting framework of SOC 2. This is an independent, third-party examination report that demonstrates how Badger Meter achieves key compliance controls and objectives around Beacon AMA and its smart water network data.
