LAN to Design Texas Lift Station

March 9, 2015
Construction of the lift station is expected to be completed in December 2015

The city of Friendswood, Texas, selected planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) to replace its existing Lift Station No. 18. LAN will design a new lift station with a pumping capacity of 500 gal per minute, as well as a backup generator and truck turnaround for maintenance. Additionally, a wetland delineation and environmental site assessment will be performed due to the site's proximity to a bayou.

List Station No. 18, one of the city’s major lift stations, has reached the end of its useful life and is below the 100-year floodplain. The city made interim repairs to the lift station including replacing pumps and wet well to sustain operations; however, a complete redo of the lift station is necessary for better operator access and continued sewer service. The city, in partnership with LAN, will design and construct the new lift station at the existing site to avoid acquiring property since this process is often time consuming. In addition to saving time, this option is also expected provide some savings for the city.

“With the new lift station, the city will have a reliable pump station with capacity to serve the residential community for the foreseeable future,” said Chau Bao, P.E., LAN’s engineer. “Furthermore, the risk of sewage overflows leading to environmental pollution is minimized with the new lift station.”
