newterra Acquires Crane's Water Division

June 13, 2014
Strategic fit expected to spur job growth & market expansion

Newterra has acquired the business of Crane Water from diversified industrial manufacturer, Crane Co. newterra, a privately held Canadian company, adds the U.S.-based maker of water treatment equipment to its sales/engineering and manufacturing facilities in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The move brings its employee count to almost 250 people worldwide.

“We see the acquisition being a catalyst for job growth and efficiency for the operations in Trooper, Pa., in Venice, Fla., and for newterra as a whole,” said newterra President Robert Kennedy. He said he foresees a bright future for the water division as part of newterra because they share the same focus—clean water. The acquisition brings valuable expertise in important water technologies, including reverse osmosis, ion exchange, deionization and deaeration—opening new opportunities with newterra’s existing clients in the mining sector and other markets. The acquired business also brings additional market opportunities for newterra’s modular treatment offerings for potable and process water, sewage, wastewater and groundwater.

While the name Crane Water will disappear, with the company becoming an operating unit of newterra, the Cochrane and Chicago Heater brands will carry on. The acquired business has sales and engineering offices in Trooper, Pa., and in Venice, Fla., where it also manufactures reverse osmosis filtration systems. Those locations will continue operations under newterra.

“One of the keys to our ongoing success is having full control of our processes,” said Kennedy. “This acquisition builds on that approach—adding tremendous engineering horsepower to our team, and bringing RO production in-house. It’s an excellent fit with where we’re going as an organization.”
