AIChE Forms New Technology Group

April 24, 2013
Intl. Society Of Water Solutions becomes latest technology group under AIChE umbrella

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced formation of a new technology group: the Intl. Society for Water Solutions (ISWS). The society provides a forum for communication and networking among engineers and scientists who share interests in water research and technology development, especially industrial water use and reuse.

The new group is co-chaired by Danny Reible, Bettie Margaret Smith Chair of Environmental Health Engineering and director of the Center for Research in Water Resources at the University of Texas in Austin, and Ralph Exton, chief marketing officer for water and process technologies at GE Power & Water. It aims to tackle critical water-related issues by presenting innovative solutions, optimizing water use while minimizing pollution, collaborating to raise awareness and sharing knowledge globally. Its work will focus on meeting programming, government outreach, public education and interaction with other organizations involved in water issues.

In announcing the new group, June Wispelwey, executive director of AIChE, described its “ultimate goal” is to become “the foremost catalyst in applying engineering expertise in meeting society’s needs in the area of water sustainability.” It will work with AIChE’s Institute for Sustainability.

According to Darlene Schuster, who heads the Institute for Sustainability, ISWS members will be part of a network of professionals “who are sharing ideas and experiences with colleagues from around the world.” ISWS activities will offer a platform for presenting work, opportunities for peer-review of projects, discounts on ISWS conferences and workshops, newsletters, webinars and career and employment services.

Membership is open to individuals, academic institutions and corporations.
