CH2M HILL, a global full-service consulting, design, construction and operations firm, is pleased to announce that the company's vice president, Russell Ford, Ph.D., has been appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Science Advisory Board Drinking Water Committee. Ford, who is also New Jersey area manager, will transition to the role of CH2M HILL’s drinking water infrastructure global service leader in 2012.
As a member of the EPA’s committee, Ford will join a prestigious panel to provide advice to the EPA administrator on the technical aspects of EPA’s national drinking water standards program.
“This is a great opportunity to help guide how the EPA regulates drinking water in the future, especially in trying to gain a balance between the cost of water and the respective impact on public health,” Ford said.
Ford is a water treatment engineer with more than 25 years of experience in developing, evaluating and designing treatment processes to remove a variety of contaminants from drinking water. He has a strong working knowledge of current state and federal drinking water regulations, the design and construction of water treatment facilities, and water allocation.
He has doctorate and master’s degrees in environmental engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Syracuse University. He is a registered professional engineer in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania, a licensed water treatment operator in New Jersey and a board certified environmental engineer.
Ford is passionate about the drinking water industry, and is an active member in many professional organizations including the American Water Works Assn. (AWWA) where he is a member of the Standards Council, a trustee of the Water Science and Research Div. and a past chair of the AWWA Plant Operations Committee and New Jersey Section AWWA.
Earlier this year, Ford was honored by the AWWA New Jersey Section with the Research and Technology Transfer Award, which is given to a section member for outstanding achievement in research and technology transfer. Ford has published articles and presented numerous presentations relating to drinking water issues and technology.
