Disc Aerators are a Retrofit Solution for Replacing Aging Brush Rotors

Sept. 26, 2014
Disc aerators are an ideal retrofit solution for single or multi-channel oxidation ditch applications

When brush rotors in oxidation ditch applications approach their useful life, Envirex disc aerators from Evoqua are an ideal retrofit solution. Existing tanks can be used, and disc aerators allow for improved mixing efficiency, lower energy use, simpler operation and less maintenance. Plants with multiple ditches operated in series provide an opportunity to reduce aeration energy, the ability to upgrade to biological nutrient removal and increased operating flexibility to handle excessively high storm flows.

The Envirex disc aerator is made of a high-density polyethylene and its design incorporates molded nodules and recesses to transfer oxygen and to provide mixing. The non-metallic features of the Envirex disc aerator design provide a longer, more cost-effective life when compared to galvanized or painted carbon steel brush rotor designs.

Evoqua also has the ability to retrofit wide tank oxidation ditch applications using torque tube disc aerator assemblies.

In St. Charles, Mo., Envirex disc aerators replaced brush rotors and increased their plant capacity, reduced maintenance and provided them with additional biological nutrient removal capabilities. Envirex disc aerators are a solution for single or multi-channel oxidation ditch applications and provide many mechanical advantages and treatment process benefits.
