Typhoon Lan causes flooding in Japan

Typhoon Lan made landfall in Japan Oct. 23, causing flooding and landslides. At least two people were reported killed, and many were injured.

Early Oct. 23, the storm sustained winds of 100 mph, making it a Category 2 storm. Several parts of Japan have recorded rainfall totals greater than 500 mm. Prior to the storm, authorities issued flood and landslide warnings, as well as evacuation advisories.

The Weather Channel named Typhoon Lan the most intense tropical cyclone of the year in the northwest Pacific.
