Sacramento Suburban Water District Selects MWH Soft Technology to Meet Business Challenges

Jan. 19, 2007

MWH Soft, a global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, has announced that the Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) in California has elected to adopt the company’s InfoWater Suite ArcGIS-centric software for hydraulic modeling and to assist in updating its water facilities master plan.

Sacramento Suburban Water District delivers water to approximately 45,000 customer accounts in the northeast region of Sacramento County, an area of approximately 36 square miles with an estimated population of 170,000. SSWD operates about 100 groundwater wells, ranging in depth from 285 to 1,000 feet, and has approximately 703 miles of water mains ranging from 4 to 48 inches in diameter. The district also purchases surface water to increase its water supply reliability and reduce demands on its local groundwater basin. MWH Soft’s InfoWater will provide the district with a tool to assist in developing a comprehensive master plan for its distribution system, and optimizing the district’s capital improvement program.

InfoWater Suite is the world’s only NAGCS (National Association of GIS Centric Software)-certified hydraulic modeling application software. The suite reads ESRI GIS geo-databases, corrects network topology problems and data flaws, extracts pertinent modeling information. It automatically constructs, skeletonizes, loads, calibrates and generates credible network models with astounding speed. It also allows users to share mission-critical GIS and modeling information in real time over the Internet and corporate intranets. Once models have been established, users can run and simulate various conditions, pinpoint system deficiencies, and plan sound security measures.

“After reviewing several leading products, we chose InfoWater Suite because of its reputation in the market and proven track record, excellent technical capabilities and strong technical support as well as the overall reputation of the company,” said John E. Valdes, PE Capital Improvement Program Manager for SSWD. “The software is user-friendly and gives us the power to quickly and accurately model and analyze large and complex systems directly within our ArcGIS platform. InfoWater delivers the timesaving modeling power and functionality we need. It will help us considerably in optimizing our capital improvement program while continuing to give our customers the best long-term value at the lowest possible cost.”

“As the leader in the geocentric hydraulic infrastructure modeling market, MWH Soft is pleased to be working with water utility industry leaders such as SSWD,” said Paul F. Boulos, PhD, President and COO of MWH Soft. “From the outset, our mission has been to give all engineers the powerful, yet easy-to-master, modeling and design tools they need to be highly efficient and productive. InfoWater’s ease-of-use, speed, seamless ArcGIS integration, rich functionality and unique optimization capabilities will give SSWD new power to develop sound, reliable and cost-effective capital improvement solutions in record time. We are excited that SSWD has adopted InfoWater as its geocentric waster distribution modeling and design solution, and look forward to being a vital part of its continued success.”
