Parsons Appoints Backus President of Water & Infrastructure Group

David L. Backus has been appointed president of Parsons Water & Infrastructure Inc. (PWI). PWI, a global business unit of Parsons Corporation, provides planning, engineering and management services to an array of market sectors in the water industry.

Backus, based in Pasadena, Calif., is responsible for the business unit's worldwide activities including business development, operations management and oversight of the corporation's state-of-the-art water technology and resource capabilities.

Parsons' fifty years experience in the water industry includes water and wastewater systems, water sewerage systems, desalination facilities, treatment plants, pipelines, reservoirs, storm drains, wetland restoration, ports, harbors, flood control for urban military and water infrastructure support facilities throughout the world.

"I am very pleased to have David join the Parsons team. His experience and leadership will move PWI to a more dominant position in water and water infrastructure industries," states James McNulty, Parsons CEO and chairman of the board.

Backus has over thirty years management experience in mining, environmental, water, infrastructure, engineering, construction, and operations. Prior to joining Parsons, Backus was President of Outsourced Services and International Operations at The IT Group and president and CEO of Fluor Daniel Groundwater Technologies Inc. He also held senior management positions at Dow Chemical Company and Morrison Knudsen.
