Newhall County Water District (NCWD) received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest award honored by the Government Finance Officers Assns. of the United States and Canada (GFOA), for its 2012-13 budget preparation recognizing the district’s financial responsibility to its ratepayers. This win marks the fifth consecutive time NCWD has received the award.
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
“It is an honor to be recognized and to accept this award. It has truly been a collaborative effort by all employees involved in this effort, as we continue our commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” said Karin Russell, director of finance and administration.
In order to receive the award, NCWD had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, and operations guide and communications device. As a commitment to transparency for its ratepayers, NCWD’S budget information is easily accessible on its website.
