Electromagnetic technology will help the city of Malang better manage water supply
Itron Inc. announced that the city of Malang's water utility, Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum Kota Malang (PDAM) in East Java, Indonesia, selected Intron's commercial and industrial advanced metering infrastructure to effectively monitor its distribution network and improve water resource management.
The solution will help PDAM Malang reduce non-revenue water through real-time data logging and pressure detection on each meter. The implementation of the system is scheduled to be completed in May 2012.
PDAM Malang is a leading water utility in East Java, Indonesia, serving more than 800,000 people in a major urban area. Itron is providing an end-to-end solution that will monitor PDAM Malang's distribution network at 39 district metering points to help identify potential areas of unusual consumption and network losses using enhanced leak detection capabilities, real-time consumption data and text message alerts. The soltuion will also help prevent clogging problems from particles in the water that could potentially stop meters from running properly.
The system to be deployed is based on IP-68, battery-powered, electromagnetic metering technology, particularly suited to the regions tough environmental conditions.
We selected Itron's comprehensive solution because it ensures our investment is maximized. Itron provides high-quality products, reliable support and a low-maintenance system," said Teguh Cahyono, technical director of PDAM Malang. "It is critical for PDAM Malang to be able to monitor consumption and flow rate accurately, especially in areas power supply is not available. Itron's batter powered technology delivers what we need, where we need it."
