Aug. 10, 2007

A 48-year-old man has died after an accident in a water treatment plant in Russellville, Ark.

The Courier reports that a steel beam weighing approximately 500-600 pounds fell off a piece of equipment, and struck Roy A. Bradley in the head. Bradley was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

City Corp. General Manager Craig Noble told The Courier that the industrial accident did not involve City Corp. personnel, but instead was the result of work by an independent contractor working for the city.

Contact was made with the appropriate safety officials, such as OSHA and the Arkansas Department of Labor. Russellville firefighters, Pope County EMS, Russellville police and Arkansas State Police authorities were present to conduct an investigation.

Noble told The Courier that water treatment capacity was not at risk during the incident.
