Insituform Technologies, Inc. Awarded $7.5 Million Contract with Newton, Mass.

Dec. 28, 2000

The City of Newton, Mass., has awarded Insituform Technologies, Inc. a $7.5 million contract to rehabilitate nearly 12 miles of aging brick sewers running through the city and along the banks of the Charles River.

The project is the second phase of a two-year, $12.1 million program designed to reduce the infiltration of excess groundwater into the city's overloaded sewer system. Insituform completed the program's first phase, which included repairs to five and a half miles of 19th century, oval-shaped sewers, earlier this year.

Insituform will repair the lines using the company's Insituform® process of pipe rehabilitation. This technology creates a new pipe in place that seals the sewer and restores its structural integrity without digging up the existing pipe. Insituform will begin the project this month. The project is expected to be completed in June 2001.

"We are pleased to have won the second phase of this project. It further demonstrates our ability to perform large, complex projects," said Anthony W. Hooper, chairman of the board, president and CEO of Insituform.

Insituform Technologies, Inc. is a leading worldwide provider of proprietary technologies and services for rehabilitating sewer, water and other underground piping systems without digging and disruption.
