Illinois Section of the AWWA to Hold Courses on Red Flag Rule

Courses will be held Feb. 5, Feb. 10 and May 26

The Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) is holding a set of courses on the Red Flag Rule. The events will be held Feb. 5 and May 26 in Norridge, Ill., and Thursday, Feb. 10 in Springfield, Ill.

Agenda
Attendees will learn the background and history of the Identity Theft Red Flag Rule being promulgated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is due April 1, 2009. All water utilities are required to comply with this rule.

In addition, the requirements of the rule and the necessary written program will be discussed and attendees will receive templates that will make it easier for water utilities to achieve compliance. Please note that finance department staff from your utility could also benefit from this presentation if water account initiation and the billing process is under their purview.

Speaker
Kevin Lookis has been employed by the city of Evanston, Ill., since 2001. He served as the revenue manager in the finance department until May of 2008 and was responsible for the oversight of the water billing functions for the city. He is currently the assistant superintendent of water production but still has an active role in the water billing process.

Registration
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The training will start at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 1 p.m. Earn up to 3 renewal training credit hours or professional development hours. Continental breakfast and lunch will be included.

Dates and Locations
The courses on Feb. 5 and May 26 will be held at the Estelle Sieb Community Center, 7774 West Irving Park Road, Norridge, Ill., 60706. Cost is $25 for AWWA members, or $35 for non-AWWA members or onsite registration.

The course on Feb 10 will be held at the Route 66 Hotel & Conference Center, 625 E. Saint Joseph Street, Springfield, Ill., 62703.
