Retired U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water official Charles A. Job will assume a new staff position of regulatory affairs manager for the National Ground Water Assn. (NGWA) effective Jan. 1, 2016, NGWA announced. Job will report to Lauren Schapker, NGWA’s director of government affairs.
Job worked at U.S. EPA for more than 29 years, having served since 2000 as its Infrastructure Branch chief. At the agency, Job also led critical work in standards and risk management, underground injection control, regulatory coordination, and information collection. During part of his agency tenure, Job worked in EPA Region 5 in groundwater protection and water quality standards planning. He also was a charter participant in the recent development of the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network, a multiagency private sector data-sharing project.
“Chuck Job’s knowledge and abilities will be great assets to NGWA and its members as the Association strives for policies good for America and the groundwater professions,” said Kevin McCray, CAE, CEO of NGWA. “So much of being heard in Washington involves having sound policy initiatives and then effectively communicating them to the decision-makers. Chuck will help NGWA make that happen.”
In addition to his EPA experience, Job has also worked in the environmental consulting sector, in state and regional government natural resources and planning agencies, and for major American corporations. He holds master’s degrees in applied economics emphasizing environmental economics from the University of Michigan and environmental science from Miami University.
In 2010, Job authored the text “Groundwater Economics,” which has been used in instructional programs around the nation. He was also the lead on a column in NGWA’s journal Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation from 1996 to 2012.
