Ohio State University Professor Emeritus Recognized for Contributions to Groundwater Industry

Dr. E. Scott Bair of Kitty Hawk, N.C., has received the Keith E. Anderson Award for outstanding contributions to the National Ground Water Assn. (NGWA) and the groundwater industry.

The award will be presented at the 2015 Groundwater Expo, Dec. 15 to 17 in Las Vegas.

Bair received his Ph.D. in hydrogeology from Pennsylvania State University in 1980. He worked six years in the Geotechnical Div. of Stone & Webster Eng. Corp. before joining the faculty at Ohio State University in 1985. He is now a professor emeritus in the School of Earth Sciences at Ohio State University (OSU), from which he retired in 2014. While at OSU, Bair received multiple awards for his teaching, including the OSU Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award in 1991.

He also began teaching groundwater training courses for NGWA in the mid-1980s at the peak of the groundwater remediation period for the groundwater industry in the U.S. He has been an NGWA instructor ever since, beginning with the popular NGWA course “Principles of Groundwater: Flow, Transport, and Remediation.”

A past chairperson of the Geological Society of America Hydrogeology Division, Bair served as its 23rd Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer in 2000. He was elected fellow of the Geological Society of America and in 2013 received the George B. Maxey Distinguished Service Award. He is coauthor of the textbook Practical Problems in Groundwater Hydrology; in addition, he has published more than 40 referenced articles and technical reports.
