The $5,000 donation to the food bank will help provide 20,000 meals

Representatives of American Water Resources presented a $5,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. The donation will help provide 20,000 meals for people struggling with hunger in Middle and West Tennessee. For every $1 donated to Second Harvest, the organization can provide four meals to feed hungry people.

American Water Resources offers optional water and sewer line protection programs to customers of Metro Water Services (MWS). Last fall, American Water Resources committed to make a $1 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee for each new MWS customer enrolled in its service line protection programs between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2014. American Water Resources previously donated $2,500—representing 10,000 meals—to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in April 2014.

“Our partnership with Metro Water Services extends not only to its customers but to its community,” said Barbara Boyarsky, vice president and general manager of American Water Resources. “Our donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee underscores our commitment to the communities in which we live and work, and we are pleased to support the mission of Second Harvest as it works to solve the threat of hunger in Tennessee.”

The American Water Resources donation to Second Harvest follows recent donations of food to the organization made by MWS and other Metro employees during the sixth annual Metro government-wide food drive led by Mayor Karl Dean, which raised a record 147,000 lb of food in November 2014. Employees of Metro Water Services also volunteer hours of their personal time to sort food at Second Harvest on a monthly basis.

“Hunger continues to exist for many of our neighbors, and Second Harvest remains committed to our mission to feed hungry people and work to solve hunger issues in our community,” said Jaynee Day, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. “Each day in Tennessee, one in six adults and one in four children struggles with hunger. Together, Second Harvest and our 450 Community Partner Agencies and corporate partners like American Water Resources provide hope to children, families and seniors in need."
