Connecticut City Declares State of Emergency

Massive water leak is depleting the New London, Conn., water supply at a rate of 10 million gal per day

New London, Conn., Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio has declared a state of emergency in the city, which is experiencing a major water leak, according to NBC Connecticut.

The location of the leak was identified around 8:30 a.m., and it is causing the city to lose up to 8,000 gal per minute, or a rate of 10 million gal per day. With a daily supply of 7 million gal per day, the city could deplete its water supply within a few hours.

Residents of New London and Waterford have been place under mandatory water restrictions by the New London public utilities director.
