Dewberry Welcomes New Water/Wastewater Engineering

G. Scott Funk will manage and design projects and expand services


Dewberry welcomed G. Scott Funk, PE, as senior project manager in the firm’s Virginia Beach, Va., office. His new responsibilities will include managing and designing water/wastewater projects and expanding Dewberry’s water/wastewater services into the Hampton Roads market through his client relationships and past experience on municipal projects in that area.

Funk has 15 years of engineering experience, primarily involving the inspection, evaluation, design and rehabilitation of water/wastewater collection system infrastructure. His portfolio includes development of preliminary engineering reports, preparation of plans and specifications, construction administration and field engineering and inspection. Since 2005, Funk has been responsible for managing the design and construction of pipeline renewal/relocation projects with an estimated construction value of $35 million.

Prior to joining Dewberry, Funk served the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) for eight years as a task order/project manager for its Utility Relocation Program. Funk’s other prior experience included serving the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District as a lead project engineer on its Utility Adjustment/Relocation contract involving the design of water and sewer system adjustments necessary for VDOT roadway projects.

Funk earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia Water Environment Assn. and the National American Society for Trenchless Technology, and is a licensed engineer in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina.
