FMC Launches Scientific Advisory Boards

June 6, 2013
Boards seek to increase collaboration & improve standards across the environmental industry

FMC Corp. developed and launched Scientific Advisory Boards in the categories of Soil & Groundwater Remediation and Water Treatment, in an effort to increase collaboration and improve standards and fundamental science across the environmental remediation and treatment industry.

“FMC faces the same challenges the entire industry does in looking for the appropriate solution to the remediation need,” said Philip Block, Ph.D., director of technology for FMC Environmental Solutions Division. “A Scientific Advisory Board enables the best in the business to come together to discuss solutions for the current issues that challenge each one of us.”

The Scientific Advisory Boards are made up of select engineers, chemists and consultants from across the industry. The Soil & Groundwater Remediation board, led by Philip Block, reconvened on May 21, 2013. Block also leads the Water Treatment board, which will meet again later this year. Meetings are scheduled to occur two times per year, and ideas are shared under a non-disclosure agreement in order to improve cooperation among all parties involved.

“The Scientific Advisory Boards include some of the most experienced scientific minds in the industry,” said Leonard Casson, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, associate professor and academic coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering and a member of FMC’s Scientific Advisory Board. “As a group, we work to define problems and develop solutions that have meaningful application for consultants and engineers across the industry.”
