Drinking Water Conference to Address Economic, Environmental Issues

March 13, 2013
Conference will be held March 25 to 28 in Las Vegas

In today’s market, water utilities are facing some of the most significant water challenges including; a decaying infrastructure, diminishing water supplies, increased water demand and rising water costs. Utilities are now looking for sustainable solutions that meet current and future economic, environmental and public health goals. In an effort to help address these concerns, the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA) will focus their upcoming conference on, “Sustainability in a Time of Change.”

“Everyone plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainable future of drinking water,” said Dr. Timothy Worley, executive director of CA-NV AWWA. “One of our roles is to provide a forum where utility managers, water operators, regulators, engineers and educators can come together to exchange innovative concepts and technical research.”

The four-day conference, held March 25 to 28, 2013 at the Tropicana Resort in Las Vegas, will feature more than 190 presentations on key concepts including: drinking water regulations, utility rate challenges, financial sufficiency, and sustainable water supply planning and implementation strategies.

Keynote Speaker, John Entsminger, senior deputy general manager for the Southern Nevada Water Authority and Las Vegas Valley Water District will discuss the many challenges Southern Nevada has addressed and will continue to confront. Attendees can also participate in two technical tours that showcase Nevada’s most progressive water facilities.

The conference will draw nearly 1,200 water professionals and more than 110 vendors at the Exhibitor Exposition. This year’s conference will play an integral role in the advancement of education and careers, offering attendees an opportunity to access higher learning, networking on a large scale, and qualify for up to 18 contact hours valid towards the state water operations certification renewal.
